They’re Baaack…

Staff report
Huerfano County — It’s been over a year since Petroglyph Energy officially ceased operations in the county, yet records show that the company is still in the business of procuring mineral leases in Huerfano County.
The company has filed 50 leases so far in 2012 with the county clerk’s office. The month of April was the busiest month with 31 leases signed. Three leases were filed with the county in May and six leases in June. Four were filed in August and six have been filed in Sept. so far, with the most recent filing dated Sept. 20, 2012.
At this point there have been no requests for drilling filed with the Colorado Oil and Gas Conservation Commission.
According to filings listed at www.thecountyrecorder.com, the areas affected are mostly north of Highway 160 with some parcels located in the Majors Ranch and the Silver Mountain areas. The largest number of parcels are located in the Navajo Ranch subdivision with a smaller number of leases in the Rio Cucharas subdivision. A few parcels south of Highway 160 have also been leased.
Petroglyph Energy hasn’t returned phone calls made by the Huerfano World Journal as of presstime.
