Courthouse improvements, 2 Rivers update

by Larry Patrick
WALSENBURG — A total of $280,000 in improvements will be made to the county courthouse and jail in the coming months. Inside storm windows and new lighting will be installed, saving energy and creating a better work environment. The project will be also result in some noise reduction in the historic 1904 building. New blinds will also be installed for further energy savings. Long Technology will begin the upgrades in the next few weeks.
Foreclosures are up in Huerfano County. County Treasurer Debbie Reynolds said there have been a total of 27 foreclosures so far in 2012 compared with 18 at this time last year. The majority are in Walsenburg.
The commissioners received correspondence from the Colorado State Division of Water Resources regarding Two Rivers Water Company’s request for a substitute water supply plan on the Robert Rice ditch. The plan was approved with conditions. Due to local opposition, cost, and the relatively small amount of water involved, Two Rivers has decided to withdraw the application without prejudice, meaning they would not be barred from refiling at a later time.
