HUERFANO- A head-on car accident on Hwy 160 west of La Veta on Sunday injured four people, and three were flown to hospitals. The accident happened about 8:15 p.m.
According to a fireman at the scene, the collision occured when a Subaru driven by a visiting Japanese couple attempted to pass a string ofcars, and light rain on an oily area caused the vehicle to slide into oncoming traffic. The passenger side of the Subaru was struck by a van, causing severe trauma to the passenger. The Jaws of Life took an hour and a half to free the driver of the van.
Traffic in both directions was stopped for over an hour and a half before the roadway could be cleared.
