Damaged train tracks in Walsenburg being repaired

by Edie Flanagin

WALSENBURG- Union Pacific crews began repairing the tracks at Main Street on Wednesday, Jan 5.  Main Street was closed from 9-4 yesterday for the repairs which involved removing and redoing the rough crossing on Main St.  Many residents have noted and wondered about the decrease in train speed through town in recent weeks.  In fact the trains were going about half their normal speed; 10 mph instead of 20 mph because of the damaged crossing.  The reduction in train speed has vexed Walsenburg residents with some trains taking 10-15 minutes to clear town.  If the repairs go as planned, by Thursday morning the trains will be “zipping” through town again.  Now if we could only do something about those blasted horns!
