1882: The brass band purchased eleven new instruments for $225.

1901: Some 13 years ago the residents of Martin’s Addition asked to be annexed but the plat was never filed so they still are not residents of La Veta.

1908: A number of men working on the Orlando Reservoir in the northeast part of the county were attacked by cowboys in a saloon at Huerfano station.

1912: Wednesday was essentially “ladies day” in town and it would have taken more than the usual snow storm to keep the fair sex at home.

1920: A supper and social affair was held at the school house last evening in celebration of April Fool’s Day.

1928: Dr. Shafer, the chiropractor of Walsenburg, will open an office next week in the north part of the Mauldin building.

1936: Fri-Sat at the newly remodeled and reopened Rialto Theater – Gene Autrey, the new singing cowboy, stars in “Tumbling Tumbleweeds,” a western cowboy, in a western story, singing western tunes.

1941: Sleepy Hollow, a new recreation room for teenagers and young adults in the Park Lane Hotel, opened last Sunday with an electric music box for dancing.

1949: Louis Magnino bought the Railroad Park Service Station from Mrs. W.B. Hall.

1955: Leo Sager and Glenn Kreutzer will represent La Veta’s sixth grade in the Huerfano County spelling bee.

1963: The La Veta Redskins won their first game of the baseball season over Rye, 13-2, with Fred Herrera pitching just four hits.

1971:  The annual Community Good Friday services will be tomorrow in the Mountain View Baptist Church with Rev. Karl Schuster of the United Methodist Church delivering the message.

1978: The many storms during March contributed greatly to local watersheds which are returning to normal

1983: Ground was broken last week for a multi-unit apartment complex to be known as “The Fort”, a three-story cedar log building at the south edge of town.

1989: After the resignation of Mayor Gerald Arnold, trustees Bob Kennemer and Mickey Schmidt have announced their interest in filling the position.
