1910: For Sale: the Gallaway property at the corner of Kansas Avenue and Harrison, four lots, residence and stable, $2,100.

1916: Pauline Frederick in the dramatic sensation of the century, “Zaza,” ten cents admission, Star Theater, March 28 only.

1922: City Council has adopted an ordinance that pool halls may open at 7 am and must close at midnight.

1928: The old adobe building of 1875, between N. Joseph’s property and the Colorado Hotel and originally used for the Masonic Hall, is being razed for a modern garage.  The bottom floor has been used recently for Spanish American dances.

1934: The Civil Works Administration paid out $4,550 this week to its workers in Huerfano County but in future will restrict them to 24 hours maximum per week at 30 cents an hour.

1938: Governor Teller Ammons will be here Saturday for governor’s day, followed by a dinner in the Community House and the Fireman’s Ball in the Elks Lodge.

1944: Died, Thelma Katherine Furphy, nee Kerr, wife of Herbert J. Furphy.  She moved to Walsenburg in 1911 and was the first graduate of St. Mary High School in 1919.

1949: Winner of the amateur talent quest held in St. Mary Auditorium March 17 was eight-year-old Maxine Martinez, a vocalist.  Second went to Joan Saccaomanno, fifteen, of Aguilar, who also is a vocalist.

1955: Approximately 90 junior high pupils will be featured in a spring concert of vocal and instrumental music in Washington School Auditorium tonight under the direction of Miss Marjorie MacDonald.

1961: About $225 in cash, liquor, candy and miscellaneous items were stolen from the Rambler Café early Saturday according to Nola Geiser, owner and operator.

1967: Mr. and Mrs. Gil Vigil celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary by renewing their vows in St. Mary Church.  She was Eva Quintana and they were married in Aguilar.

1973: Miss Shelley Wagner is a candidate for a teacher’s certificate at Western State College and will do her student teaching here in her own hometown.

1981: NAPA Auto Supply Store moved to its new quarters at 227 W. Seventh Street over the past weekend.
