POlice nab library break-in suspect

WALSENBURG-The Walsenburg Police Department made an arrest in the break-in last week at the Spanish Peaks Library. 18-year old Sergio Medina of Walsenburg was taken into custody. Some of the stolen property was recovered. Two laptop computers, two TV’s and a Wii unit were stolen from the library facility. Walsenburg police are doing more follow up on the case to see if others were also involved in the library heist.

    Four-juveniles were arrested last week by Walsenburg police for possession of marijuana and having an incendiary device. Police chief, Larry Baldanado, said the pipe-bomb type device did not have a fuse but contained pellets and powder. All four youths were released to their parents pending a court hearing.

    Late breaking news: A Walsenburg Police Officer, driving through the intersection of 8th St and Russell, broadsided a van carrying six children.  The accident occured around 8pm Tuesday evening, and sent the officer and several of the children to the local emergency room.
