Presco lets well permits expire

HUERFANO- Presco drilling company out of Texas, who wished to drill for methane gas in the Twin Lakes region of the county, allowed its well permits throughout Huerfano County to lapse at the beginning of July, and is expected to transfer those permits to Shell Oil Company.

    Presco, which maintained their drilling would be safe, stirred the community’s concern, with standing-room only crowds attending the February and March Joint Public Hearings on their drilling permits.

    The Planning and Zoning committee recommended denying Presco’s application, and the County Commissioners imposed tough conditions on when and how Presco could proceed with its explorations, causing  Richard Ellis of Presco to say his company couldn’t make an investment based on some of the “draconian language” included in the agreement that both sides hadn’t worked out.  Ellis said, “The language in this form is just not acceptable.”
