LA VETA- An eastbound train carrying barley derailed late Thursday evening on the flatlands east of La Veta, five miles south of 160 bordering Valley Road. According to Ed Ellis of Permian Basin railways, four cars were tipped over, spilling their cargo, because of an internal defect in one of the track rails. The rail line was out of service for close to two days as the tracks were repaired and the barley cleared away. No injuries were reported.
