HUERFANO — The Colorado State Patrol is investigating a single ATV, resulting in one serious injury and one fatality on private property near Colorado Highway 160, approximately 14 miles west of Walsenburg.
A 2006 Polaris Magnum was traveling eastbound up a steep hill, when the Polaris began to roll backwards and rolled on top of the occupants. The Polaris continued down the hill, ejecting the occupants, and came to rest at the bottom of the hill, on its right side, facing west.
Both occupants came to rest at the bottom of the hill but were moved prior to the arrival of emergency personnel.
The Polaris’ driver, 71-year old Guy Webber of La Veta, was not wearing a helmet or protective equipment at the time of the crash. He was transported to Spanish Peaks Hosptial in Walsenburg, and then air lifted to Parkview Medical Center in Pueblo. He sustained serious injuries during the crash.
The Polaris’ passenger, a five-year old male of La Veta, was not wearing a helmet or protective equipment at the time of the crash. He sustained fatal injuries and died on scene.
