Temple Emanuel Restoration Benefit Concert

Esteemed Tai Chi teacher from Taiwan at LVSA for classes

LA VETA—DerWei Huang, esteemedT’ai Chi teacher from Taiwan – will be teaching at La Veta School of the Arts this week April 20-24.  Everyone is welcome.  His schedule is below with all classes limited to 10:
Morning classes will be from 9 a.m. to noon and afternoon classes will be from 1 p.m.to 4 p.m.  for a donation of $25 per class.

HUERFANO—Artists! The Spring Show at SPACe is coming up soon. Artwork will be accepted between April 21-23, from 11 a.m. – 2 p.m. A nominal fee of $5 per entry, with a limit of 4 entries per artist, will be collected to help with gallery overhead. Artwork over 30″ wide is considered as two entries. In addition, a commission of 30% of the selling price will be collected on sold artwork (35% for nonmembers of SPACe) SPACe membership is only $30 annually for individuals. La Veta Library movie matinee

LA VETA—Join us at the LaVeta Library on Thursday, April 21 at 2 p.m. for our monthly movie matinee in the meeting room.  We will be showing “The Way” starring Martin Sheen.  It is a moving and inspirational story of one man’s pilgrimage on “The Way of St James” and the life changing events that he encountered.  For those of you that were able to hear Greg and Leesa’s description of their similar trip, this will be a great follow-up.  Free refreshments, as always.

WALSENBURG—Come join us for St. Mary Catholic Church Bingo Night starting Thursday, April 21at 6 p.m. in Delaney Hall in Walsenburg.  We will have a door prize on opening night.  Doors open at 5p.m. and bingo starts at 6p.m.  We will have raffles for prizes, a concession stand hosted by local vendors, and live entertainment.  Early bird specials will start selling at 5 p.m. and will start when pull-tabs sell out! Each Bingo session will have eight games with a $500 progressive jackpot.  Bring a friend and come have fun! All proceeds will go to St. Mary Church.

Spanish Peaks Library Storytime

Rose HeARTworks Outreach and Next 50 Initiative announces that the April Health and Wellness Programs in Huerfano County will be  at the Walsenburg Library on Friday, April 22 at 1 p.m. and in Gardner at La Clinica on Saturday, April 23 at 11 a.m.  Let us help you keep tabs on your basic vital signs and share important health information.  Once again, this month, we will assist you with everything you need to create your own “Vial of Life” information to have available if the need should arise for Emergency Medical People to come to your home.

Let’s paint the town! Painting bluebird birdhouses with Amber Huff

LA VETA— Join us to celebrate the official designation of the La Veta Creative District and kick off our first Paint the Town event on Saturday, April 23 from 2 p.m. – 5 p.m. at the La Veta School of the Arts (LVSA)! For the first “sip and paint” event, Amber Huff will lead participants to paint bluebird birdhouses. Tickets are $40 and include all art supplies, wine, and light refreshments! No painting experience required. Proceeds will benefit the La Veta Playground Initiative.

Water Conservancy District Board meet

The Puentes Project

HUERFANO—Kick off the Puentes Project with evenings of live music, dance, history, and art in Walsenburg and La Veta. The Puentes Project is building bridges between Huerfano County communities
through arts and culture. The kickoff features dance by Tiana Camacho Mercier, music by David Enke, art by Yul Jorgensen and Arthur Short Bull, and heritage by David Steffan. These interactive events also feature YOU! You get to decide how to spend the Project’s funds to create more Puentes events throughout the year. Come, build some bridges! Join us on Tuesday, April 26 , 6 p.m. at the Fox Theatre in Walsenburg and Wednesday, April 27,  7 p.m. at the La Veta Mercantile.  These events are free to attend. “Puentes: Two Peaks One Community” is sponsored by the Huajatolla Heritage Foundation, Spanish Peaks Public Library, La Veta Public Library, and Warm Cookies of the Revolution.

Introduction to Colcha Embroidery

HUERFANO—Colcha Embroidery is a style of needlework created by women in colonial settlements in northern New Mexico as early as the 1700’s. By the 1800’s it was also utilized in southern Colorado.  Colcha embroidery has a wonderful history and a revival that will be explored through a series of classes.  Please join Sandy Dolak for an introduction to Colcha on Wednesday, April 27 at 2 p.m. in the Capps Building at Francisco Fort in La Veta or on Friday, April 29 at 2 p.m. at the Walsenburg Library.  Come learn and get some hands-on experience with this historically significant art form.

Folding Into Peace

LA VETA — On Thursday, April 28 at 2 p.m. upstairs at La Veta Library, Veronica Marino will lead a group activity of learning the origami art of folding cranes. The art of origami has been around since the 6th century. To make this program complete, Laura Bedford will guide the group in a Peace Meditation. For fun, Fortune Cookies will be served as our refreshment. Program brought to you by Huajatolla Heritage Foundation in collaboration with Colorado Humanities.

Special Olympics town Q&A

TRINIDAD—A.B.C. Disability Support Group is hosting a town Q&A about starting up a Special Olympic team in our area. Join the live, in person event on Wednesday, April 27, at 4:30 p.m. in the events room at the Tri-Peak Theater in Trinidad. Representatives from Speial Olympics Colorado will be in attendance to talk about getting a team started  and answer any questions. Parents and professionals are welcome and food will be provided.

Spring Art Festival

TRINIDAD— Come Celebrate the arts at Trinidad State College’s Spring Art’s Festival starting on Wednesday, April 27 and goes through Friday, April 29. Enjoy a plethora of activities including art workshops, artist lectures, a film festival, a talent show, open mic, performances and a student art show. Folsom Museum’s Dry Cimarron Tour

FOLSOM — Join us for this year’s tour on Saturday, May 7, 8 a.m.   The tour will begin at the Folsom Museum with a tour of the town and its history. It will proceed from there down the Dry Cimarron with stops at local ranches and other historical places of interest. There will be a break for lunch at the Burchard ranch where Mr. Burchard will give a presentation of artifacts and geological, and paleontological history. Participants can bring a lunch or order a sack lunch through the Museum at the time of registration. Fruit, snacks, and water will be provided by the Museum. (Donations are greatly appreciated.)
