HUERFANO — Friday, Oct. 13 saw the second day of a massive illegal marijuana grow destruction effort in Huerfano County following the arrest of ten people Thursday morning. Sheriff Bruce Newman says deputies are digging up over 700 mature high value marijuana plants at six different sophisticated grow sites on properties in the Navajo Ranch subdivision located west of Walsenburg. In addition to the four to eight foot tall plants found on the properties,

Newman says hundreds of pounds of drying or dried marijuana buds have also been found at each site. Huerfano law enforcement executed search warrants on the properties Thursday and Friday. The estimated value of the illegal marijuana plants confiscated so far is well over $1 M. No estimate has been made on the value of processed and drying marijuana found at the various sites.
