Wrong way driver causes head on crash on I-25

WALSENBURG /AGUILAR — One week ago today, one person was killed and five others seriously hurt in a head on traffic accident on Interstate-25 near Aguilar. The traffic incident closed the southbound lanes for about three hours as the investigation was conducted and flight for life helicopters landed to taken on the injured after 3 pm last Thursday. The Colorado State Patrol reports Doris Sanchez-Healey, 76, of Aguilar died as a result of the September 10 accident near mile post 27. Accident investigators say Sanchez-Healey got onto the Interstate and drove northbound in the southbound lane in a 1994 Cadillac and collided head on with a southbound Chrysler 300. Sanchez-Healey was not wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash and died as a result of her injuries. Three adults and two children in the Chrysler were seriously injured. The two children were flown to Children’s Hospital in Aurora; two adult women were flown to Parkview Medical Center in Pueblo and one adult male was transported and treated at Mt. San Rafael Hospital in Trinidad. The state patrol has not identified the persons injured. The preliminary accident report indicates inattentive driving is being investigated as the cause of the crash.
