Staff report
WALSENBURG — The sixth year of Walsenburg Wild Waters (WWW) will begin tomorrow. The city is making last minute preparations to open the facility for people who want to enjoy the water this Memorial Day Weekend.
Jackie Perrino is the new water park manager this season. Lifeguards have been hired along with concession stand personnel. The WWW is ready to go.
The gates will open at 10 am on Friday. This year the public can enjoy an extra day of activities as the WWW will be open Wednesday through Sunday. It will also be open on holiday Mondays like Memorial Day, next Monday.
Splash passes are available for the public at the water park or City Hall at 525 Albert Street. A pass costs $60 for 20 days of fun. The Splash passes can be used by one person for 20 separate visits or a number of people using one pass at the same time for fewer visits. Admission prices are also available for single visits. Cash and credit cards are accepted.
For those unfamiliar with WWW, there are two big slides to propel swimmers into the water. There is a diving area, fountains and a gradual entry area for younger children to get into the water like they would at a lake. The depth of the water park facility is around three feet except for the separate diving area which is 12 feet deep. Most of the water park is ADA compliant.
There are grassy areas under shade trees to relax and a menu of food items and beverages to satisfy your appetite and thirst. There is shopping close by and fine motels and restaurants in Walsenburg, should you decide to extend your stay.
The Walsenburg Wild Waters can be reserved for birthday or other parties and company events. Special areas are set aside for such groups. If a company or other large organization wants to reserve the water park only for themselves, they can contact the manager or city to set up a date and time.
The WWW is the largest water park south of Colorado Springs and brings tourists and guests from miles around to enjoy the amenities offered. The season generally goes from Memorial Day weekend through June, July and most of August. For more information call 719-738-2628 or go to www.cityofwalsenburg.com.
Also the grand opening of the new skate park is slated to take place at 11 am on Friday, May 25. It is located in City Park next door to the Walsenburg Wild Waters.
