Water system improvements

    The Huajatolla Valley Estates board is seeking loans or grants from USDA Rural Development to improve their water system. According to board president, Jessica Newton, they are seeking $250,000 to put in meters, build a new pump house and provide cisterns to double their water capacity.

   Huerfano County Administrator, John Galusha is pushing for a May 1st opening of the waste transfer station. The roll off truck has been ordered along with the compactor and rollers to finish the project.

   The Cucharas River cleanup is scheduled for April 17th. John Galusha, reports that the number of volunteers willing to help with the cleanup is up to 150 so far. A hiking and biking trail is being proposed from the Community Center out toward the hospital and Lathrop State Park.

    The Commissioners will meet with the representatives of the CCA prison next week on signing a new agreement making sure the County receives 55 cents per day per prisoner for the Arizona inmates that are being moved into the Walsenburg facility. All of the Colorado inmates are being moved to other CCA facilities to make room for Arizona prisoners being brought in at more money.
