Walsenburg Man beaten to death

PUEBLO- Matt Maez, 18, of Walsenburg, died on Sunday, Sept 13, more than a week after he was savagely beaten and dumped in a field in Pueblo.

Pueblo police are searching for Jayson Oslund, who is suspected of murdering Maez.  Oslund’s whereabouts are unknown, and it is believed he is getting help from family and friends to elude capture.

Maez was beaten the evening of Sept. 5, after Maez and some friends were at the same party on  Pueblo’s  East Side as Oslund and his brother, Kelly.

The Oslund brothers reportedly caught Maez stealing items out of their car, and chased him into a nearby field.  Jayson caught hold of Maez, and emerged later, alone, allegedly carrying a club.

The brothers returned to the party and bragged about beating Maez.  Maez’s friends went looking and found Maez beaten and unresponsive, and took him to Parkview hospital.

Maez recently completed work on the Walsenburg River Walk project, which was an effort to help unemployed or troubled youth with summer jobs, and provide them with a sense of accomplishment.
