Walsenburg lands USDA loan for Northlands

WALSENBURG- USDA Rural Development Deputy Under-Secretary, Judy Canales of Washington D.C. attended the celebration for the City of Walsenburg of a grant and low interest loan secured from the USDA for the Northland sewer line project.
The city, state, and other local government officials, businesses & citizens interested in the project attended.
The sewer line will allow the city to return water provided to the Northland’s area to the Cuchara river basin as the Colorado State Engineer’s Office determined years ago needed to be done. The project will also allow expansion of business, provide additional jobs, increase sales tax revenue and get rid of the smelly sewer ponds.
The USDA grant is for 1.8 million dollars with a 3.6 million dollar low interest loan to be paid for by those in the Northlands General Improvement District area of Walsenburg. The Department of Local Affairs and Office of Economic Development is also providing around $700,000.
