SOCO Electric Vehicle (EV) survey
SOUTHERN COLORADO — Pueblo County is developing an Electric Vehicle (EV) Readiness Plan that will identify key partnerships and actionable strategies that will help the county prepare for EVs and make EV adoption easy and affordable. We are circulating an EV survey right now throughout Southern Colorado.
Pueblo County received DOLA funds to pursue an EV Readiness Plan, and this survey is the first stage. We are look- ing for all Southern Colorado residents to complete this survey – not just Pueblo County. (DCI) and the Economic Development Council of Colorado (EDCC) have teamed up once again to establish and present educational content to build awareness and informed action on the Gallagher Amendment in advance of the November election as the Colorado Gallagher Amendment Repeal and Property Tax Assessment Rates Measure has made it to November’s ballot.
Wednesday, Sept. 22, 4 p.m., DCI’s Big Talks Series features Joe Minicozzi of Urban 3 who will dive into Colorado Tax Policy, what our policies encourage, and what Gallagher and TABOR will mean in a post pandemic economy.

Virtual Celebration of Celtic Festival Artists – Sept. 17-20!
HUERFANO COUNTY — We want to share some good news with you. Though we remain officially cancelled for this year, neither you, nor our artists, are forgotten. We are busy arrang-
ing a series of virtual events to be held during the original Festival dates Thursday, Sept. 17 – Sunday, Sept. 20. These events are planned to include performances each of the four evenings, and also to include workshop opportunities during the day. In that regard, if you are fiddler you can look forward to a work- shop with Martin Hayes. If whistle and/or flute is your pleasure, we will have Kevin Crawford. I think that you can expect additional artists to be added as workshop presenters.

However, we likewise want this to benefit our artists in a year that has been extremely tough for musicians to make their living. Therefore, each event will have a donation option for that artist. In the days to come we will be announcing the schedule of virtual events, as well as guidance about how you can access each event. YouTube will be the most frequently used performance platform, but Facebook may also be used. You can expect that Zoom may be used for some workshops, in addition to YouTube or Facebook.

American Legion Blood Drive / Vietnam Veteran Commemoration
WALSENBURG — The American Legion, Post 16 will be hosting a Community Blood Drive on National POW/MIA Remembrance Day, Friday, September 18, 10 a.m to 2 p.m. at the Huerfano County Community Center, 928 Russell Avenue. The American Red Cross has determined that there is a nationwide Blood shortage and your donation would be greatly appreciated.
We will also honor Vietnam War Era Veterans who served in the military between November 1, 1955 and May 15th, 1975. Veterans who served during that period can come to the Community Center and pick up a Commemorative Pin, Certificate and “thanks” from a grateful nation for your service. To re- member the Prisoners of War (POW) and Missing In Action (MIA) a small table will be set up in the gymnasium to memorialize the over 81,900 US service members of our military still missing or unaccounted for from WWII, Korea, Vietnam, Gulf War and other conflicts.

Fall Show at SPACe
LA VETA — The Spanish Peaks Arts Council invites everyone to the Fall Show, with featured artists Rebecca Meyers, Hugh Keating and Carrie Fox now through Oct. 3. Due to Health Dept. requirements, only 10 people at a time are allowed inside, face coverings, and social distancing are required, so no refreshments.
Rebecca Meyers is showing an amazing collection of Native American and African cultures’ masks, created from clay and re-purposed materials. Along the same lines, Gary Weston has new fantastical works also from re-purposed materials. Hugh Keating is showing some of his crayon and acrylic works featuring loosely rendered architectural scenes on canvas, and Carrie Fox has included contemporary embroi- dery and photography “sketches” inspired by the rivers and wildlife in Huerfano and Las Animas counties. Other area artists sharing their original art are Kathy Hill, Ann Gethen, Cathy Mullens, Pat Newell, Karen Voepel, Kenny Schneider, Barb Kowalik, Jim Lambert, Gordon “Shorty” Schockey, Martha Lancaster, and Linda Shelley.

Tire collection event in Walsenburg
WALSENBURG — Last year the “tire roundup” was for the 81055 La Veta area. This year it is for 81089 Walsenburg area. The event will be on Saturday, September 26, 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the City of Walsenburg Public Works garage parking lot, 525 S. Albert.
Each household is limited to nine passenger auto or light truck tires. Proof of 81089 residence will be needed. If you have tires that are larger than 22 inches in diameter, or tires with rims in, call ahead and leave a message at 303-449-6483 so that we can make arrangements with the private hauler to accept them. This collection event is not open to any commercial entity or tire business.
This year’s “tire roundup” will be conducted by volunteer members of the Huerfano County2 Road Clean Up Committee just as the La Veta event last year. This collection is a free service of the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment

TRINIDAD — Volunteers are needed to help build the first hiking trails at Fishers Peak State Park Monday and Tuesday, Sept. 21-22 and Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 26 -27. We will be working on trails for the public to enjoy. Volunteers are needed each day from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.; lunch will be provided.

Hungry Hearts lunch on Saturdays
RATON — Hungry Hearts will resume serving lunch every Saturday at St. Vincent de Paul thrift store location, 401 S. 4th St. Free lunches will be served on a drive-through, take-out only basis from 12 to 1 p.m. (while supplies last, first come- first served). Walk-up guests will be served as well. We ask that all guests, whether drive up or walk up, please wear masks. As always, lunches are free and anyone is welcome. Drive-through guests should enter from the north end of the thrift store parking lot.
28th Annual Fish Fest and 2nd Annual Pike Round-Up
EAGLE NEST — The 28th Annual Fish Fest and 2nd Annual Pike Round-Up will be held Thursday-Sunday, Sept. 24-27, at Eagle Nest Lake State Park, 42 Marina Way. Cash Prizes will be awarded to the 1st, 2nd, & 3rd place trout based on the length and girth. $500 cash prize will be awarded to the largest pike caught (length and girth).
There will be a limited amount of t-shirts this year. If you would like one, please order one early by calling the marina 575-377-6941. More details coming soon… Hope to see every- one there!

Colfax County Rapid Response meeting
RATON — The next meeting of the Colfax County Rapid Response volunteer firefighting community based organization will be tonight, Thursday, Sept. 24, 7 p.m. at the Colfax County Courthouse, 230 North 3rd Street. Currently we engage in wild land and structural fires. When called upon we serve a civic duty, which is to protect the communities and citizens in Colfax County. Colfax County Rapid Response meets on the second and fourth Thursdays.

RATON — 2020 Summer Hours of Operation- Covid-19 social distancing rules are in place, locker rooms are open. Lap Swim is Monday-Fridays 6 a.m.- 10:30 a.m. and 4:30 p. m.- 7:30 p.m. and Saturdays 8 – 11 a.m..

The Supper Club cancer fundraiser: At Home
SANTA FE – The Cancer Foundation for New Mexico Board of Directors today announced The Supper Club: At Home. The event will take place on Sunday, September 20, 2020 at 6pm, and is easily accessed through the Cancer Foundation for New Mexico’s website, cffnm.org . Online access is free for The Supper Club: At Home. However attendees are encouraged to donate and thereby enable the Cancer Foundation for New Mexico to reach its fundraising goal. Tune-in and enjoy online at on Sunday, September 20, 6 p.m.
Guest artist features in the half-hour program will include performances by three Grammy Award®-winning vocalists: Mezzo-soprano Joyce Castle, and sopranos Patricia Racette and Jessica Rivera. Miss Castle’s appearance is courtesy of Des Moines Metro Opera and Iowa PBS. Miss Racette is accompanied by Beth Clayton and Miss Rivera’s collaborative pianist is Mark Carver. In addition, Southwest Art magazine cover artist Rebecca Tobey will discuss her sculptures from Ventana Fine Art located on Canyon Road, a Santa Fe street dedicated to the country’s finest art. The fifth artist offering will include excerpts from Filmmaker Gwendolen Cates’ PBS/Independent Lens documentary, Water Flowing Together, which provides an intimate portrayal of retired New York City Ballet Principal Dancer Jock Soto. A native New Mexican, Mr. Soto will also share his journey as a cancer patient who benefitted from the support of the Cancer Foundation for New Mexico.
