New location for Free COVID Testing

LA VETA — Starting December 29th, the Free COVID-19 Community Testing in La Veta will take place at the La Veta Fire Protection District, which will allow for indoor testing.

Free Movies at the Fox in Walsenburg

WALSENBURG –  This weekend, there will be three   free family friendly movies shown at the Fox, one each night.
Movie showtimes are  Friday at 7:30 p.m., Saturday at 7:30 p.m., and Sunday at 3 p.m.

Spanish Peaks Library expands hours

WALSENBURG – In order to better serve the communities of Huerfano County, The Spanish Peaks Library District is pleased to announce expanded hours.
Starting Monday, Jan. 3rd the Walsenburg Library will be open:
Monday-Wednesday, 10 a.m. – 6 p.m.
Thursday-Friday, 10 a.m. – 4 p.m.
Sunday,  1 p.m. – 5 p.m.

Community meeting on shooting range

HUERFANO — A community meeting will be held Jan. 5, 2022 at 6p.m.  in the Conference Room at the Huerfano County Community Center (928 Russell Street, Walsenburg CO 81089)  to discuss creation of a public shooting range in Huerfano County.

Free Christmas grief intervention

WALSENBURG  — The Holiday Season can be a really difficult time for people struggling with grief or trauma. If you are having a hard time moving on from the past and would like to try a new way of reframing events, consider coming out to the Walsenburg Community Center on Jan. 5th from 9 a.m. – 2 p.m.
Paul Rieker, Clinical Hypnotherapist has been practicing since 1985 and may be able to help you “create future accomplishments with love for those remaining.”

Walking the Camino de Santiago

LA VETA — What is the Camino de Santiago? Where is it, and why would anyone want walk it?
Greg and his wife Lisa have walked the ancient pilgrimage route of the Camino de Santiago in northern Spain two times. Come learn the what, where, when, why and how of the Camino as Greg tells of their experiences along the way and explains what you need to do to undertake this once in a lifetime journey yourself. This program will be at 2 p.m. on Jan. 6 at La Veta Library. The program will be repeated at 11 a.m. on Jan. 11 at the Walsenburg library.

Be a Friend of the Library

HUERFANO — The Friends of the Spanish Peaks Library District will have their first meeting of the year on Monday, January 10, 2022 at 1p.m. If you love books and reading, please join us and find out how you can become involved. Meetings take place at the library located at 415 Walsen Avenue, Walsenburg, CO. All are welcome.

Martin Gilmore Trio at LV Mercantile

LA VETA — The Martin Gilmore Trio will be playing at the La Veta Mercantile on Jan. 15th at 7 p.m.
The Martin Gilmore Trio (MG3) is a bluegrass and folk music group from Denver, Colorado. Comprised of Martin Gilmore, Nick Amodeo, and Ian Haegele, their sound centers around acoustic bluegrass and folk music, but they stray into jazz, swing, country and blues. They have toured all over the United States and Ireland. $18 advance  $20 day of show

Spanish Peaks Library Storytime

WALSENBURG – There will be no storytime on Friday, December 24 as the library will be closed that day.  Storytime will return on Friday, December 31 for a fun New Year’s celebration.  The fun will be from 10:30 – 11:30a.m. at 415 Walsen Ave. in Walsenburg.  If you have any questions you may contact Ms. Sherry at 738-2774 or sherry@spld.org.

PWP Bags & Brews ring in the New Year monthly river cleanup

TRINIDAD  —  Join us on Saturday for good times for a good cause along the Purgatoire River!
We look forward to seeing you out on the river Saturday, Jan. 1 at 10 a.m. for a sunny New Year’s Day morning along the river, followed by good times and refreshments at noon at Moose’s Pub to keep the ‘Welcome to 2022’ celebration going!
We’ll be meeting at the Safeway parking lot by the flags, and all you need to bring is an enthusiasm for cleaning up your river! We provide trash bags, brand new gloves, factory-sealed bottles of water, brand new safety vests, disinfecting wipes. (if you prefer, you may use your own  protective gear, plus sunscreen hat, mask etc).
Come enjoy COVID-19 friendly, socially distanced good times along the river – meeting new community members and working together to clean up our river!

Joint Legislative Roundtable

TRINIDAD  —  The City of Trinidad City Council and Las Animas County Commissioners are hosting a joint
Legislative Roundtable on Thursday, January 6, 2022, at the Trinidad State College Pioneer Room
from 9:30a.m. – 12p.m.
The Roundtable will cover community-wide topics such as the Opioid Settlement, Criminal Justice
Issues, impacts to the LAC Human Services, DOLA funding updates, and updates on City and
County projects.
This meeting is open to the public and everyone is invited to attend. Masks will be required to be
worn inside the facility. Comments will be limited to the roundtable participants, but the audience is
invited to submit written questions for the panelists and presenters. For additional information,

Monoclonal Antibody Treatment Bus
TRINIDAD  —  The Monoclonal Antibody Treatment Bus will be at 412 Benedicta Avenue in Trinidad on Thursday and Friday December 30th and 31st from 8a.m. – 6p.m.
We anticipate that the bus will be able to serve approximately 15 individuals per day. Patients can also use the following link to self-schedule list of upcoming available appointments at COMassVax.org

Open Mic Second Saturday
TRINIDAD  —  The Trinidad Creative District is sponsoring a new program for local authors and poets.  Beginning on Saturday, January 8th and reoccurring every second Saturday from 5 – 7p.m., there will be an Open Mic night at the Creative District’s Gallery at the Commons, 210 W Main Street. Local authors in all genres are welcome, and these evenings are also free and open to the public.
