WALSENBURG –   The Mobile Vaccine Bus will be at the Safeway in Walsenburg on Thursday, Dec. 23rd from 10 a.m. – 6 p.m.  Flu and COVID boosters offered.

Cuchara Chapel Christmas Eve Service

WALSENBURG –   The Cuchara Chapel invites you to a candlelight Christmas Eve service on Dec. 24 at 5 p.m.

Encanto at the Fox in Walsenburg

WALSENBURG –  Our weekend movie is Disney’s “Encanto,” rated PG, with a run time of 1 hour 49 minutes.
The Madrigals are an extraordinary family who live hidden in the mountains of Colombia in a charmed place called the Encanto. The magic of the Encanto has blessed every child in the family with a unique gift — every child except Mirabel. However, she soon may be the Madrigals last hope when she discovers that the magic surrounding the Encanto is now in danger.
Movie showtimes are  Friday at 7:30 p.m., Saturday at 7:30 p.m., and Sunday at 3 p.m.
Movie ticket prices are $7 for adults, $6 for students and teachers, $5 for children (ages 5 to 12).

Plant a Book at La Veta Library

LA VETA — This holiday season make a reader’s Christmas bright and help grow the La Veta Library’s children’s book collection.  Planting a book in the library’s collection is a great and easy way to honor a friend or relative. A dedication bookplate will be placed inside one of our pre-selected books and you can choose a card to give to your special person. Plant-A-Book is going on now.  All dedications cost $15.00.  Contact us at 742-3572 for more information. You can view the books on our website lvpl.org and use the PayPal option to purchase or come in to the library.

Youth basketball signups extended

HUERFANO — Signup for Two Peaks Fitness Youth Sports Leagues Basketball! Ages 4-12. Walsenburg and La Veta leagues. Spanish Peaks Library Storytime

WALSENBURG – There will be no storytime on Friday, Dec. 24 as the library will be closed that day.  Storytime will return on Friday, Dec. 31 for a fun New Year’s celebration from 10:30 – 11:30 a.m. at 415 Walsen Ave. in Walsenburg. More info: 738-2774 or sherry@spld.org.

TC’s Community Christmas Dinner

United Church of Walsenburg Christmas weekend

WALSENBURG –   The United Church of Walsenburg will hold services on Sunday, Dec. 26 will be at the regular time of 1 p.m.  All are welcome, come join us.  The entrance by the ramp on Kansas Ave. will be open.

Spanish Peaks Library expands hours

WALSENBURG – In order to better serve the communities of Huerfano County, The Spanish Peaks Library District is pleased to announce expanded hours.
Starting Monday, Jan. 3rd the Walsenburg Library will be open:
Monday-Wednesday, 10 a.m. – 6 p.m.
Thursday-Friday, 10 a.m. – 4 p.m.
Sunday,  1 p.m. – 5 p.m.

Community meeting on shooting range

HUERFANO — A community meeting will be held Jan. 5, 2022 at 6p.m.  in the Conference Room at the Huerfano County Community Center (928 Russell Street, Walsenburg CO 81089)  to discuss creation of a public shooting range in Huerfano County.

Free Christmas grief intervention

WALSENBURG  — The Holiday Season can be a really difficult time for people struggling with grief or trauma. If you are having a hard time moving on from the past and would like to try a new way of reframing events, consider coming out to the Walsenburg Community Center on Jan. 5th from 9a.m. – 2p.m.
Paul Rieker, Clinical Hypnotherapist has been practicing since 1985 and may be able to help you “create future accomplishments with love for those remaining.”

Walking the Camino

LA VETA — What is the Camino de Santiago? Where is it, and why would anyone want walk it?
Greg and his wife Lisa have walked the ancient pilgrimage route of the Camino de Santiago in northern Spain two times. Come learn the what, where, when, why and how of the Camino as Greg tells of their experiences along the way and explains what you need to do to undertake this once in a lifetime journey yourself. This program will be at 2 p.m. on Jan. 6 at La Veta Library. The program will be repeated at 11 a.m. on Jan. 11 at the Walsenburg library.

Be a Friend of the Library

HUERFANO — The friends of the Spanish Peaks Library District (SPLD) in Walsenburg, CO is looking for a few good people to be board members for the Friends of the Library. The Friends of the Library supports the SPLD by having book sales two to four times a year and selling books all year round in the library Book Nook.
Our support funds library programs for children and adults and recent upgrades in the children’s section of the library as well as any other way we can. If you love the library, have the time and inclination for one meeting per month and approximately ten additional days per year, please join us on Jan. 10th, 2022 at 1p.m. for our next meeting.

Martin Gilmore Trio at LV Mercantile

LA VETA — The Martin Gilmore Trio will be playing at the La Veta Mercantile on Jan. 15th at 7 p.m.
The Martin Gilmore Trio (MG3) is a bluegrass and folk music group from Denver, Colorado. Comprised of Martin Gilmore, Nick Amodeo, and Ian Haegele, their sound centers around acoustic bluegrass and folk music, but they stray into jazz, swing, country and blues. They have toured all over the United States and Ireland. $18 advance  $20 day of show

Carnegie Library Giving Tree

TRINIDAD  —  ‘Tis the season to give with Carnegie Public Library’s Giving Tree!
We’re collecting NEW hats, gloves, mittens, scarves, and socks for all ages for those in need in our community. Donations are being taken now through Dec. 31st.
You can bring your donations into the library or give us a call when you arrive to use our curbside service. We greatly appreciate your help!

Trinidad Trolley Tours begin Dec 3

TRINIDAD  — Trinidad Trolley tours begin for the holidays on Dec. 3 and go through Dec. 22.  Tours run twice a day  Wednesday through Sunday with the first tour starts at 5:30 p.m. and the second being at  7p.m.

Christmas Dinner from Trinidad Soup Kitchen

TRINIDAD  —  Christmas dinner boxes will be prepared by the workers at the Trinidad Soup Kitchen, however this year they will only be delivered in the
Trinidad area due to COVID.
But if you know someone who would be willing to drive to Trinidad and pick-up dinner boxes and bring them to those who’ve ordered them outside of Trinidad, the soup kitchen will be happy to prepare them.
Order your dinner box by calling Terrie at 719-680-0427 or Sandra at 719-679-2587. They will be taking orders for the boxes until the deadline on Dec. 23.
The Trinidad soup kitchen will appreciate any monetary donations.

Open Mic Second Saturday
TRINIDAD  —  The Trinidad Creative District is sponsoring a new program for local authors and poets.  Beginning on Saturday, January 8th and reoccurring every second Saturday from 5 – 7p.m., there will be an Open Mic night at the Creative District’s Gallery at the Commons, 210 W Main Street. Local authors in all genres are welcome, and these evenings are also free and open to the public.
