Triggers just wanna have fun

EMT’s, Triggers take to Central Park Field in annual exibition game

by David Tesitor

TRINIDAD – The Triggers and Las Animas County First Responders met in a Father’s Day exhibition game following last Sunday’s Roswell Invaders game, to the delight of fans and fathers present.

The friendly game offered a chance for the Triggers to relax and for the first responders to take a break from the serious action they deal with each day. It was also a way for the fans to thank them for the service they provide, and their dedication to Las Animas County and its residents.

The Triggers roster included many of their support staff, some of whom looked pretty good. Regular players played positions they don’t normally play, and were required to bat opposite-handed. The fans cheered and cat-called, and the players (we won’t name names) enjoyed a cold one in the dugout on a hot Sunday afternoon.

It was also a great day for fathers who came to watch their sons live their dreams. Although the Triggers lost the games that counted, Roswell’s sweep (see related story) did not dampen the day’s fun.

Special Trigger and World Journal thanks go out to first responders everywhere. Members of the EMT team included: Tayna Billinger, Gabe Moreno, Matt Moreno, Randi Ortiz, Jason Billoti, Mike Gihonivich, Travis Knevel, Gabriel Martinez, Casey Wold, Hugh Harkin, David Sanchez, Bill Romero, Cortney Cantoria, Ethan Cantoria and Angela Gamorna.

The EMT jerseys were provided by Aaron and Trish Morabito of the Sub Shop in Trinidad, proud sponsors of the Triggers. This year’s Father’s Day game was dedicated to the memory of Lory Phillips of KCRT & KBKZ and Phillips Broadcasting. Phillips has been a big part of Trigger sports coverage broadcasting many games over the past six seasons.

The Triggers won, 9-7.
