Tourism board chooses unique design for Spanish Peaks Country

by Edie Flanagin
WALSENBURG– The Huerfano County Tourism Board met Friday, April 1 with all members present. The board voted to accept “design # 5” of the signage designs presented by Clyde Schroeder in last month’s meeting. The unique sign emblazoned with “Spanish Peaks Country” will be located along the I-25 right of way north of Lascar Road. Now that a design has been selected the board approved contacting Schroeder to get prices on engineering drawings and material specs for the sign. The board hopes to vote on proceeding with the sign project at the next meeting May 6.
In other business, the board voted to buy additional copies of the Signature’s visitor guide and finalized the ad copy. The guide is put in travel centers throughout Southern Colorado. The board also discussed the proposal for redoing the billboard at the intersection of Hwy 160 and Hwy 12. Grandote Golf Course offered to pay to redo the sign if it includes them. No action was taken on the proposal.
The Huerfano County Tourism Board meets the first Friday of each month. Tourism board projects are funded by the lodging taxes collected in Huerfano County.
