On May 23, the Huerfano RE-1 School Board will select the name of its new junior-senior high school, whose construction is slated to begin this summer. Among staff, teachers and parents, opinion is split over whether to retain the name “John Mall Jr./Sr. High School” or to name the new facility “Walsenburg Jr./Sr. High School,” with 47.6% preferring Walsenburg High and 40.9% preferring to retain the name of John Mall.
We are conducting a survey among community members to widen the pool of opinion weighing in on this once-a-generation decision.
