Stabbing incident puts one man in hospital and two men in jail

WALSENBURG– A quiet May evening turned abruptly violent when a stabbing was reported in the 300 block of W. Sixth Street. Walsenburg Police were dispatched to the scene at approximately 8 pm; the officers arrived within a minute of the call. The male victim, 72, was taken by ambulance to Spanish Peaks Regional Health Center, and then taken to Parkview Hospital in Pueblo by Flight for Life. The condition of the victim is unknown at press time.
The police investigation, which included statements from the victim, indicate that Harvey Quintana, 50, and Paul Archuleta, 47 both of Walsenburg, came uninvited into the victim’s residence to retrieve a step ladder that Archuleta said belonged to him. The suspects were told to leave the property at which point Archuleta and Quintana began to assault the victim. According to the victim’s statement, Quintana stabbed him during the assault. Arrest warrants were obtained for the suspects and both were arrested without incident. Both suspects are in the Huerfano County Jail on $45,000 cash only bonds.
