Grizzlies take double header

WALSENBURG-  The Fowler Grizzlies came to town this past Saturday, April 26, and left with a pair of baseball victories over the John Mall Panthers.  In game one,  both teams gave up many hits and runs, but it was the accumulated errors which lost the game for the Panthers. When the smoke from the bats settled, the Fowler Grizzlies defeated the Panthers 13-9.

Panther pitcher Jonathan Aguirre gave up thirteen hits while on the other side of the mound, Dan Zemmer threw eleven.  The Cats committed nine errors in the game which provided the Grizzlies with the scoring opportunities to claim victory.

Game two was not as wild as the first; both teams seemed to settle down.  Panther pitcher Mike Vigil executed great ball control for three solid innings, before the Grizzlies opened the game up with six runs.  The Panther offense could not produce enough hits to overcome the deficit as the Cats were shut out 10-0.  All the Panthers could muster were three hits, a season low.

As with most high school athletics, ineligibility issues have plagued the Cats this season.  Coach DeHerrera has done a fine job of compensating for the gaps in his line-up.  The team has come together to play as a solid unit, and were it not for some mental mistakes, this Panther team would be better than their record indicates.

The Panthers close out their season tomorrow when they travel to South Park for a doubleheader.  The game begins at 10 am.
