Sharp-eyed city employee calls in fire

Small blaze in Raton quickly extinguished

RATON — Monday afternoon, a sharp-eyed city employee reported smoke coming from behind the old Pizza Hut building in Raton.  On further investigation, he discovered a a fire in a storage shed behind the building.
Raton Fire and Emergency Services responded to the fire, and waited on Raton Public Services arrive and disconnect some live wires that were hanging over the storage shed before they could safely attack the blaze.  It took them only a few minutes to extinguish the blaze and begin mop up of the scene.  Northbound South Second Street was partially blocked off while fire fighters took care of the blaze.
The cause of the fire was unable to be determined.
