Rumors and hyteria

LA VETA- Generally, reporting on unsubstantiated rumors sweeping through a school does not merit front page consideration, but the events which occured last Monday, February  7 have taken on a life of their own.

A juvenile did not come to school that day, and was later reported to have been taken to the emergency room, claiming to have been abducted and assaulted.  The juvenile did show some bruising.  La Veta Marshal Harold Wilburn is investigating the matter, but as of presstime, was not prepared to make any definitive statements.

The school is taking the rumor of something occuring  seriously as well.  “This is the strangest thing I’ve ever seen in all my years as school administrator,” said Superintendent David Seaney.  “If we find out there were any students involved (in the assault), they will be out of this school.”

The student was out of school all last week but has since returned.  The student is being escorted to and from the bus until the situation settles down or is resolved.

Meanwhile, accusations and innuendos have flown around as to who might have had a motive and opportunity to attack the student.
