La Veta’s Austin Taggart lost his opening round match to Cody Duran on a Technical Fall in the second period, 17-0. Austin has a chance to wrestle back in the consolation bracket. If he wins his next two matches, he could wrestle for 3rd place and a trip to state.
Fast and Furious Action
La Veta-6:45 pm Austin Taggart lost his opening bout on a technical fall 17-0. Taggart escaped several near falls, but lost on the TD.
After first round bye’s several wrestlers turn came up on the mats. Jake Ferrari dominated Calvin Coleman of Mountain Valley opening up with a take down and near pin to rack up a 5-0 lead. He was in total control of the match before he pinned his opponent at the 4:23 mark. He will next wrestle tomorrow in the semi finals. A win then will send him to state.
Next up was John Malls Brian Aguirre at 130. He took on McKai Flint of South Park. From the opening, Brian opened up a commanding 8-0 before securing the pin fall at 3:34.
Clayton Archuletta had little trouble pinning Alex Caperton of South Park in 16 seconds.
The Huerfano connection of Steve Kimbrel of La Veta and Bernie Archuletta of John Mall with Kimbrel winning by pin fall at the 3:52 after controlling the match.
Ron Ortivez opened up a commanding 5-0 lead over Emilio Martinez of Center before pinning his opponent at 1:37
Eric Figueroa of John Mall lost on a technical fall 17-2. Eric was in the match the first period, but several takedowns led to the technical decision.
Both Stuart Pino and Chuck Rapp were pinned.
