Redskins win fourth and fifth

CENTER- The La Veta Redskins won their fourth and fifth games in a row and extended their record to 5-3 after they defeated the Center Vikings on Jan. 7, 70-43.  Josiah Christian exploded for 27 points, propelling the Skins to victory.  Christian also pulled down twelve boards.

La Veta started off slow, falling four points behind early.  The twin towers Dalton and Dakota Mason, scored 15 and 14 points respectively.  The Redskins executed a dominating man-to-man coverage shutting down the Vikings midway through the first.  According to Coach Kreutzer, “Trey Price … did an excellent job of shutting down Center’s leading scorer, Miguel Nungaray, holding him to only six points.”

On Saturday, the Redskins took their hot team over the pass to Del Norte to face the Tigers.  When the smoke settled, La Veta had won 61-53 in a game which saw the Skins come from behind to overtake the Tigers late in the third.  Once again, Christian was the team’s leading scorer with 24.  Dakota scored 18 while Dalton hit 11.

La Veta and Sargent are tied atop the league with 4-0 records.  The Skins will travel to Hoehne tonight to face the Farmers, a team with a 1-5 record.  The Skins defeated the Farmers handily earlier this season, 75-36, at the Hoehne Classic tournament.  La Veta will host Sargent (7-0) the following night.  The winner of that battle will take sole possession of first place.
