Redskins split games with Vikings

by David Tesitor
CENTER — The La Veta Redskins split a pair of games with the Center Vikings in league action extending their record to 4-11 for the season.
The first game saw La Veta win on a high scoring display of strong bats, 13-12. The Redskins opened up strong, scoring in each of the first four innings.
The Skins held Center scoreless until the bottom of the fourth when the Vikings exploded with six runs crossing the plate to make the score 8-6. Center then took the lead in the fifth with an additional three runs, but the La Veta team held on with tenacity to come back.
With the score tied at eleven to begin the seventh inning, La Veta scored two runs on three hits to regain the lead. Center could not find the bats in the bottom of the inning, giving La Veta the victory.
In the game, the Redskin pitchers gave up seventeen total hits, including a home run. They also struck out nine batters.
The second game was not as explosive for either team as the Vikings won the split by a score of 3-1. It was a pitcher’s duel as the Redskins struck out thirteen batters and Center’s Jose Macias retired fourteen batters. There were five hits the entire game by both teams. La Veta was shut out through five innings when their lone runner crossed the plate to make it a 3-1 game.
Last Thursday, the Redskins hosted Alamosa in a non-league game. Alamosa defeated La Veta 12-8.
