SAN LUIS VALLEY- The La Veta Redskins volleyball team took their winning season to the road and dominated two league teams last week. Fresh from their second-place finish at the John Mall tournament, the Lady Skins traveled to Del Norte on Thursday, taming the Tigers in three, 24-14, 25-22 and 25-18. Earlier in the evening, the Junior varsity also won in three games.
On Saturday, the Redskins crossed the pass again, going to Sanford to face the 3-1 Indians. Due to the solid hitting of their front line and excellent defensive saves, La Veta had little trouble with the Indians, putting them away in three, 25-18, 25-23 and 25-16.
According to Coach Lessar, “We are on the right track. We are hitting the ball well and our defense is strong.” The pair of victories gives the Redskins a 5-1 record, one-half game behind the 5-0 Sangre de Cristo Thunderbirds and the 5-0 Center Vikings.
La Veta will travel to Mosca to take on the T-Birds tonight with action beginning at 5 pm. On Saturday they will travel to Rye to take on the Thunderbolts with the JV hitting the net at 3:30 pm. They will close out a hectic week at home against the Hoehne Farmers on Sept. 23.
