Redskins compete in first meet of season

MOSCA — Coach Brandi Menegatti and the La Veta Track team competed against 17 teams over the past weekend in the Sangre de Cristo School District. They ran against some members of the Panther team, but it was the ‘Skins who came home with a strong first place finish of their own.
The La Veta boys took 2nd place in the final team standings. The La Veta girls placed 11th with 21 points. The Redskins scored 62 points behind Mancos who had 85 points.
Continuing with his strong efforts of last season, Bradley Vigil finished first in the shot put with a throw of 41’1.25”. It was well off his record throw of last season but was good enough to take first place. Vigil also finished second in the discus with a throw of 115’4 inches. Also taking first was Josiah Christian in the 300 meter hurdles in a time of 43.16 seconds.
In other field events, Brandon Morgan finished third in the long jump, soaring 19 feet. The boy’s team also fared well in the track events. The relay team continued to run strong finishing third in the 4 X 200 meter relay (1:40.29) and second in the 4 X 400 with a time of 3:48.71 and second in the 4 X 800 in 9:13.55 seconds. In individual events, Adam Ortivez was the lone Redskin to finish strong. Ortivez finished third in the 800 meter, completing the run in 2:12.79.
The Redskin Ladies’ relay team also finished strong with a third place finish in the 800 meter sprint medley with a time of 2:02.87.
In other relay events the ladies had top six finishes, including: 4 X 100, sixth (1:03.70); 4 X 200, sixth (2:05.17); 4 X 400, fourth (4:42.87); and fifth in the 4 X 800 (12:07.15). In individual events, Ashton Rinker finished third in the 100 meter dash in a time of 13:35 seconds.
Several other Redskins competed and finished as follows. In the 100 meter dash, Monica Morgan finished 24th (16.76) and Lauren LaGow 28th (19.59). In the men’s 100 meter dash, Michael Channel finished 27th in 14.06.
In the 1600 meter run, Sofia Schneider finished 11th in 6:46.37, Brandaise Martinez finished 15th in 7:44.12 and Sarah Smith was 17th with a time of 8:17.72
In the 1600 meter run, Casey Campbell finished 12th in 5:48.98.
In the 200 meter dash, Brenna Ray finish 25th in 33.23 and Hannah Everett was 31st in 35.23 seconds. In the 200 meter dash, Michael Channel finished 17th in 27.77. In the 300 meter hurdles, Haley Hake was 9th (59.79) and Becca Ubler was 13th (1:12.67). In the 3200 meter run, LaGow finished 6th in 20:31.19.
The men’s 400 meter dash saw Eric Greago finish 17th in 1:02.33. In the 800 meter run, Brandaise Martinez finished 11th in 2:59.96, Victoria Romero placed 14th in 3:33.70 and Stephanie Sardello was 15th in 3:58.87. In the 800 meter run, Wyatt Vidamor was 11th in 2:30.54 and Eric Greago placed 20th in 2:43.41.
The Redskins have a busy weekend coming up as some of the team will be participating in the Dutch Clark track meet on Friday and others will be headed to Primero on Saturday.
