Re-1 looking inside and out for new Superindenent

by Brian Orr

WALSENBURG- The Re-1 School District decided on Tuesday night it must move quickly to replace resigning Superintendent Dr. David Gray.

The Board was generally in agreement that it should find an interim replacement to finish out the school year, and that candidate will probably come from within Re-1.

The Board would then  hire a recruiter, such as the Colorado Association of School Boards (CASB), to bring them qualified candidates in April and May.

Gardner school Principal Julia Marchant, who has seen a number of administrations come and go, urged the Board to act quickly to hire a recruiter- “It’s worth every penny,” she said.

Board President Jessie Jackson said he would contact CASB, and ask them to meet with the Board in a workshop, so the Board can make a decision on what to do by their next official meeting on March 25.  “Time is our enemy here,” stated Board member Lynette Kleinschmidt.

Gray suggested that when the new superintendent  is chosen, the community should be supportive of that person, alluding that he had never been accepted here in Huerfano County.  He also suggested that the Board look at upping the pay for the incoming Superintendent.
