by Brian Orr

WALSENBURG- The Re-1 School Board hired Michael Doyle as the new school superintendent, effective  July 1, 2008 for a two-year contact, at an annual salary of $93,000.

The Board also approved a new contract with the Huerfano Education Association for step raises plus three percent.

They approved of Chuck Smithey as the Assistant principal of the Opportunity and Enrichment school, as well as teaching duties for John Mall and Gardner schools.

Gaye Davis will be trained as the new federal grant coordinator, replacing Julia Marchant, who will be switching over to be the Colorado Basic Literacy Act representative.

Debbie Channel of Huerfano County Youth Services gave the Board a rundown of what her office does, and any substantive discussion as to the fate of Washington School was again postponed, this time until a workshop on June 30.
