WALSENBURG- As of 4:30 pm on Monday, there was only one contested seat in RE-1. District E has two candidates running: Denise Abila-Vigil and David A. Tesitor. The director of that district will be decided November 1.
District B is vacant and if there is no write-in candidate, one will be appointed. This district has had a history of appointed directors. Anyone interested in being a director for District B must submit a letter of intent to the school board which will then be reviewed by the board for possible selection to fill the vacancy.
In November the board will have five new directors and two current board members. Jaye Sudar, Julia F. Marchant and Eva F. Vigil will be sworn in at the November board meeting since there was no one running against them in their districts. This new board will face many challenges. At their first meeting in December, they will be working with the Charter School Group and continuing the Targeted District Improvement Plan (TDIP) started by the current board.
