WOUNDED IN IRAQ- PFC Don Hughes of the 3rd ACR, is married to local girl Shannon (Aho) Hughes. He is back stateside recuperating from wounds sustained on Jan 17 in Mosul, when his M1A1 Abrams tank was hit by an Improvised Explosive Device (I.E.D.) and came under small arms and RPG fire. His tank was mangled by the blast and had to be scrapped. He was awarded the Purple Heart and the Combat Action Badge. Shannon and her mother Samantha attend the Calvary Baptist church in Walsenburg, which has been praying for his recovery. During his visit here to Walsenburg, Hughes visited the State Veteran’s Home and talked at length with the residents there.
