Panthers’ season ends

WESTCLIFFE– The John Mall Panthers advanced to the District Tournament by virtue of their third-place finish in their district for the season, but had to face the Fowler Grizzlies in tough competition to advance.  Fowler handed the Panthers a 12-2 loss, ending their dreams of advancing to the state playoffs.

Michael Maldonado opened the game from the mound, pitching a well-balanced inning.  He gave up two runs, one off a Panther error.  Charlie Whitehead came in to finish the game.  The Cats were down five runs before Whitehead drove in John Burch off a single.  According to Coach De Herrera, "We did not play our best baseball.  Fowler hit the ball well and that was the difference."

Overall, the Panthers finished the season with an 8-10 record and 5-5 in the league.  De Herrera went on to say, " the men played well and I am proud of them."  He went on to thank the county and town workers who helpßed keep the field in great playing condition despite the unpredictable weather this season.  On behalf of the team, he also expressed gratitude to the fans who supported the team.
