Viola M. Gomez, 72, of Walsenburg, went to be with the Lord on April 12, 2009. Viola died of cancer, under hospice care, surrounded by her loving family. She was born October 7, 1936 in Del Carbon, CO to Ben and Estella Martinez. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Lee and daughter, Laura Jean. Viola is survived by her husband of 49 years, Seledon; her brother, Wilfred (Marge) Martinez; her sister and best friend, Priscilla Sandoval; sons, Lawrence (Brenda) Gomez, Dale (Denise) Gomez; and four grandchildren, Jared, Sierra, Jordan and Matthew Martinez; and her special cousin, Shirley Ojeda. Viola retired after 24 ½ years of service working as secretary for Washington Elementary School in Walsenburg. She enjoyed sewing and quilting and will forever be remembered for her kindness and generosity. At her request, cremation has already taken place. A memorial service will be held at 10 am, Friday, April 17, 2009 at St. Mary Catholic Church. Burial, Huerfano Masonic Cemetery, Walsenburg.
