Obituary Susie Pineda

Susie Pineda, 87, of Walsenburg , Colorado passed away on September 17, 2015. She was the daughter of the late Francisco Pedro Martinez and Simodocea Lopez and was born in Pictou, Colorado on March 1, 1928. Susie graduated from St. Mary’s High School. She was married on April 4, 1946 to the late Theodore G. Pineda, who passed away on April 4, 1994. Susie was a talented woman and loved crafts.  She created jewelry, artwork which included acrylic and sand paintings, sewing, embroidery, and flowers.  She worked most of her life in the restaurant industry.  She and her late sister, Emma Agnes even operated their own restaurant on Main Street for several years and, for a short time, managed her own craft store.  Later in life, she coordinated the buses for gambling junkets to Cripple Creek, CO and Laughlin and Reno, NV. As part of her volunteerism, she spent approximately 18 years as a Pink Lady at the Veterans Hospital.  She also devoted her time and participation to several organizations, often attaining the highest offices; the Mother’s Club, the Latino Club, the Coronado Club, and the VFW Ladies Auxiliary.   Susie is survived by her six children, Kathryn B. Zgut, Carol J. Pineda, Toni A. Brock, Frances Pineda, Kenneth J. Pineda, and Theodore J. Pineda; and her step-daughter, Rita Lovinger; numerous

grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great, great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews. A visitation will be held at New Hope Community Church, 801 Pennsylvania Ave. in Walsenburg on Saturday, September 25 from 10 am to noon. The Rosary will be recited Saturday, September 26 at St. Mary Catholic Church in Walsenburg at 1:30 pm, followed by funeral services at 2 pm.
