Sergio C. Abila 5-19-1929 ~ 5-25-2014 Sergio C. Abila, 85, of Redwing and Walsenburg, went to be with the Lord on May 25, 2014. Born on May 19, 1929, he was preceded in death by his parents, Porfirio and Benedicta Abila; his son, Roger Valdez; his grand-daughter, Kenna Rodriguez; and brothers Tony, Walter, Ben, Eugene, Toby, Gilbert, Tommy, and William Abila; and mother- and father-in-law Manuelita and Joe Cordova, as well as brothers- and sisters- in-law. He is survived by his loving wife of 46 years, Dora Abila, and children, Rose Pauline (Manuel) Sanchez; Roger (Millie) Valdez; Joyce (Jim) Hasci; Sylvia (Brion) Stephen; Bernadette (David) Lauck; Sergio (Kristy) Abila; Gary (Vonnie) Valdez, Ivan Abila, and Denise Abila (Eric) Vigil; 29 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren and one great, great-grandson. Also by sister, Adonisa Santistevan, brother David (Lucille) Abila, sister-in-law Evelyn Cordova and numerous nieces and nephews. Sergio was whole-heartedly cared for by the loving hands of Suzanna Cruz, Gina Vialpando, and Esther Garza. Open services will be held
on May 30, 2014 at the Fox Theatre, 715 Main St., in Walsenburg at 10 am. Burial will follow at the Chama Cemetery with a reception at the Gardner Community Center.
