Ray Bustos Jr. of Walsenburg, CO, entered into rest, August 25, 2012 in his Walsenburg, CO home. He was born May 3, 1921 in Cucharas, CO to Ray and Augusta Bustos. He was 91 years of age.
Mr. Bustos is survived by his children; Roberta (Anthony Garcia) Bustos of Walsenburg, Deborah Bustos of Walsenburg, Ray A. (Nancy) Bustos of Walsenburg and Sam (Caren) Bustos of Colorado Springs, CO; by 11 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and one great-great granddaughter; half-brother Donald Bustos of La Puente, CA; half-sister Carmelita Bendacorut of La Puente, CA and by many nieces and nephews.
Ray was preceded in death by his parents, Ray and Augusta Bustos, loving wife of 65 years Monica Bustos and sister, Augusta Fehnel.
Ray was a member of the Latino Club, belonged to the Spanish Peaks Hospital Auxiliary, VFW Post commander for many years, Past Post Commander for the American legion, he was on the All American Team of Post commanders, a member of the Huerfano County Chamber of Commerce, and an outstanding Senior Citizen in 2005.
Ray served his country in the United States Air Force as an airplane engine mechanic. Ray had an instrumental role in bringing the V.A. Nursing Home to Huerfano County. He was an avid fisherman and hunter.
The VFW and his Veterans service was a big part of his life. He will be greatly missed.
A rosary will be held 7:00 pm Thursday, August 30, and a Memorial Service 10:00 am Friday, August 31, 2012. Both services will be held at the St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Walsenburg.
