“Nora” Cortez

Naboracita Maria Martinez, a beautiful baby girl, was born to the union of Jose and Candelaria Martinez. Nora married Jose Cortez on May 5, 1939, a union that lasted 51 years. Their union produced 9 children and raised 4 more. Theresa (Juan) Pineda, Katharine Armendariz, Alex Cortez, Joe (Esther) Cortez, Toby (Sharron) Cortez, Galdino Cortez, Ethel Cortez (deceased), Jerry (Stella) Cortez, and Anthony (Lillian) Cortez. Nora happily raised Mary Sanchez, Justina Sanchez, Emma (Robert) Cardenas and Nicholas Sanchez. Nora is survived by her sister Frances Salazar. Her legacy includes 23 grandchildren, 55 great grandchildren and 58 great great grandchildren. Nora loved being surrounded by her children and family. She loved to crochet, embroider and make quilts. She was a devout Catholic and prayed her rosary daily. She belonged to the Hermanas del Rosario. Nora never had a bad word to say about anyone. It is time for us to wish her well on her journey home. She will be sadly missed by her loving family forever. Funeral was held Mon. Jan. 26, 2009 at Sacred Heart Church, Gardner. Burial, Valdez Cemetery.
