Nancy Flora Giordano, 96, peacefully passed away Sunday, February 12, 2012 at her home in Pagosa Springs surrounded by family.
Nancy was born March 17, 1915 in Redwing, Colorado to Sophia and Emmett King. She graduated from Adams State College in 1938 and began a rewarding career as a first grade teacher.
She spent over 40 years touching the lives of her many first grade students and fellow teachers in Pagosa Springs and Durango’s Needham Elementary School. Upon retirement, Nancy continued to volunteer her time in the classroom in Yuma, AZ.
She married Mike Giordano in 1940 in Walsenburg, Colorado. In 1950, they bought The Spa Motel and relocated their family to Pagosa Springs. She and her husband, Mike, retired in 1983 and spent the remaining years as “snowbirds,” traveling to their second home in Yuma, Arizona.
Nancy loved to dance, take walks, play dominos, travel, eat sweets, and watch basketball. She also loved to socialize and participated in many groups including WHIPS, the Colorado Territorial Daughters, and the Red Hat Ladies.
She is survived by her son, Michael “Tuffy” (Kathy) Giordano and daughter, Marsha (Bunk) Preuit; four grandchildren, Tina (Dana) Giordano, Mikko Giordano, Angel (Travis) Stahr and Michael Preuit; step-great-grandchildren, Bailey and Nathyn Stahr; sister-in-law Rose Giordano and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Mike Giordano; son, Norman Giordano; granddaughter, Gia Giordano; her brothers, Emmett and Everett King and sisters, Viola Ori and Martha Spock; and most of her sisters and brothers-in law.
The Rosary will be said at 6:00 pm on Thursday, February 23, at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church. The funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 am on Friday, February 24 at Pope John Paul II Catholic Church.
