Juanita Alarid of Walsenburg, Colorado passed away on October 9, 2012. She was born December 8, 1916 to Victoriano and Juanita Sanchez-Alarid in Gill, Colorado. She was one of 16 children born to that union.
Juanita spent her life in the Walsenburg area, raising her family here and working both inside and outside of the home in local businesses. She was well known for her bead work, especially on moccasins. Juanita was always a very active woman.
Juanita is survived by her children; Virginia Lara-Vargas of Mercer Island, Washington; Evelyn Lara Martinez and Jerry Lara both of Denver, Armond Lara of Santa Fe, New Mexico; by her sister Bea Alarid-Wilkins of Denver as well as by 17 grandchildren and numerous great and great-great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and many of her siblings, including Edmund Anthony Duran of Walsenburg.
Funeral Mass was held Tuesday, October 16, 2012 at 11 am at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Walsenburg with burial following at the North Veta Cemetery.
