Obituary Joseph Leo Nardine

Joseph Leo Nardine was born Feb 18, 1921 and departed this life on March 11, 2016. Joe was preceded in death by his wife, Verneice Giro Nardine and is survived by his daughter Patricia Zgut of Walsenburg; his grandchildren Bill (Paulette) Zgut of Limon, CO and Laralee (Mark) Taylor of Littleton, CO; and his great-grandson, Zander Taylor. Joe was born in Tollerburg, CO, the youngest son of Austrian immigrant parents, Dominic and Angelina Nardine. He was stationed during WWII in the Aleutian Islands, then returned home to Walsenburg where he found employment at Unfug Hardware where he worked as store manager for 50 years. He was very active in the community in early years as a Boy Scout leader, Army reserves Sergeant, and baseball player; later as a member of the Knights of Columbus, Rotary Club, Elks, and VFW. For fun, he liked to restore old cars, tinker with clocks, and collect vintage toys. Those closest to him will always remember him as “Nono”. Memorial Service, will be on Saturday March 19 at 1 pm at Boies-Ortega Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the VA Nursing home (Spanish Peaks Veterans Community Living Center).
