John Miles Wilson, 70, passed away on June 23, 2011 at his home in Walsenburg, Colorado. He was born to Miles Walter Wilson and Doris Neithammer in Ann Arbor, MI on Dec. 27, 1940.
He served in the Air Force for six years as a Master Sergeant and was in the Korean conflict. He then continued his service in the National Guard Reserve for an additional 20 years, before retiring. He lived in Arizona for several years before relocating to Walsenburg in 1995.
He married Walsenburg resident Janie Lencz in 2000 and together they enjoyed gardening, canning, camping and traveling. He also particularly enjoyed genealogy, and after Janie passed away, he travelled to Poland and Germany to collect family history from both his family and the Lencz family. He filled their home with family history, photos and data.
John was preceded in death in 2003 by the love of his life Janie; by his sister Mary Katalinich in 1998; and by his parents.
He is survived by his nephew Michael M. Katalinich of Sylvania, Ohio; his two nieces Lisa C. (Ron) Gdaniec, and Annette Katon (Randy, deceased) both of Ypsilanti, MI; his step-daughter Danelle Lencz of Honey Brook, PA; and stepson Joe Lencz of Anchorage, AK; numerous grand-nieces and nephews; and a step-granddaughter; and numerous friends and acquaintances. He will be greatly missed by his special friend and companion Dorothy Ortivez.
A memorial service will be held later when the extended family and friends can come together.
