Jeanne H. O’Connor 10-3-1925 ~ 12-15-2013

Jeanne H. O’Connor, 88, went to be with her Lord Jesus on December 15, 2013. She was born October 3, 1925 in Utica, N.Y., the daughter of Edward and Alice Harris. Jeanne loved people and was most happy when helping and caring for them. To this end, she began her 34 year career in nursing as an LPN devoted to caregiving, determined to uphold the highest possible standards for patient/resident care. Jeanne spent the last five years of her career as Director of Staff Development, offering her expertise in on the importance of giving patients the respect, dignity and compassion they deserved. She continued giving this expertise when she, herself, became a resident at the Spanish Peaks Veterans Nursing Home four years ago, holding in-service training for new staff members and sitting on advisory council boards to ensure the rights of the residents were being maintained. She held many offices at the SPVNH, such as Resident Council President, Resident Advisory Council Member, Resident Advocate Advisor, Eden Board Member, Valentine Queen and Silver Queen Candidate, just to name a few. She was an avid reader, loved to sing, enjoyed socializing and was thrilled to teach people to play cribbage or invite others to come and play bingo, which was her favorite. Her family and friends knew not to interrupt her during bingo. Family and friends were Jeanne’s passion and gift-giving was her delight. Christmas and birthdays were very special because she could go shopping for others and she loved to shop! Jeanne is survived by her four children; sons Michael (Bobbie) Matthes, Grand Junction, CO; Wayne (Jackie) Matthes, Las Vegas, NV; Dean (Lisa) O’Connor, Clifton, CO; and daughter Mollie (Larry) Fuller, Walsenburg, CO. She is also survived by her sister, Gayle Price of Everett, WA; 12 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, and three great-great grandchildren; also several nieces and nephews and numerous loving friends. There will be a memorial held for Jeanne at the SPVNH at 10:00 am., Thursday, December 19, 2013 in the Greenhorn Room. The family wishes to thank all those who sent flowers or cared for her during her illness and especially those who prayed for her.
