Irene MacDonald passed away July 23 in Denver, Colorado.
Born Sept 24, 1923 in Walsenburg the former Irene Dallafior graduated from Walsenburg High School. After graduation she attended Barnes Business School in Denver. She returned to Walsenburg and married Malcolm ‘Mac’ MacDonald April 28, 1949. Together they raised three children who were all educated at St. Mary School.
Irene worked as the clerk of the district court under Hon. Albert Tomsic until her retirement.
After retiring, she volunteered at the Veterans Hospital and helped run the gift shop for many years. Playing bridge was a favorite pastime and she was a member of several local bridge clubs dating back to their inception in the 1950’s. She was known for her decorating ability, antique collecting and her wonderful sense of style.
She moved to a retirement community in Denver in 2007 to be near family. Her contagious smile, gracious manner and flair for style made her a popular resident and favorite model in the annual fashion show at Parkplace Retirement Community where she resided until her death.
She is survived by a daughter, Melanie Meyer of Denver and a son Jim MacDonald of Pueblo West and four grandchildren. Her beloved husband, Mac and youngest son Rob preceded her in death.
A graveside service will be held on Saturday, August 6 at 1:00 p.m. at the North St. Mary Cemetery. A reception will follow in the community room at the Spanish Peak Library.
The family requests donations to the St. Mary Church building fund in lieu of flowers.
