Obituary for Van Muhn 1945-2008

A memorial service was held for Van Muhn April 7 in La Veta.  Muhn was born January 25, 1945 and died after a valiant fight against lymphoma on April 2, 2008 at the age of 63.

He was born and raised in dairy country in Alma, Michigan. He graduated with a degree in Physics from Michigan State University in 1966.  He then spent 21 years in the Air Force and achieved the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. In 1987, he retired from the USAF and became a ski instructor at Steamboat Springs where he met and courted his wife, Carran. Theirs was a classic love story.  They married in 1989 and Muhn became the father to Shannon and Milli, two teenage daughters.  Their move to La Veta fulfilled a lifetime goal, to live on land they owned and in a small community they loved.

Those who knew Van Muhn remember him as a gentle man and as a gentleman. He was a wisecracking host, fantastic husband and father, and thoughtful friend.
