Ernie Nelson
2-6-1916 ~ 12-10-2010
Ernie died peacefully in his home in Elk Grove, California at the age of 94.
Born in 1916 to Mose and Ella Maes, Ernie’s life spanned nearly a century and he spent much of that time in Walsenburg, Colorado where he stretched his athletic endeavors well into his later years. He once even swam Martin Lake.
As a skilled baseball player, Ernie played with a number of leagues and he also took up golf. Golf became a great passion and Ernie loved to meet his buddies to play at The Walsenburg Golf Course.
Ernie moved to Elk Grove in 2005 to be closer to his three sons and family. He is survived by his sons, David, Nick and Steve; stepson Ken Martinez; daughters-in-law, Cindy, Leticia and Linda; by his grandchildren, Ben, Marcus, Michael and Paige; and by his great-grandchildren, Mariah and Marianna.
Ernie is preceded in death by Helen Nelson and Marie Nelson. Ernie and his family want to say thank you to all his friends and a special thank you to Don Santi, Wally Padilla, Josie Pino and Art Gayton for the sincere friendship and compassion they brought to his life.
Ernie will be greatly missed by all those who loved him.
